The leaf essential oil contains 20-35% citral (geranial + neral), 15-25% limonene, and characteristic aldehydes that form a vivid citrus-floral aroma profile.
Origin and production
The oil is sourced from Spain, from the Mediterranean region established for Verbenaceae cultivation. It is produced by steam distillation from freshly cut leafy shoots. The yield is low (around 0.1-0.2%), so pure Aloysia triphylla oil is a premium item. The method carries the volatile aldehydes with water vapour.
