The package includes 10 identical 10 ml amber glass bottles, each filled with steam-distilled Pogostemon cablin essential oil. Botany: ageing of patchouli
Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) is a tropical perennial in the Lamiaceae family. Its essential oil is rich in patchoulol and norpatchoulenol, producing an earthy, balsamic, smoky, deeply grounding aroma profile. A recognised characteristic is that patchouli oil refines with age: matured grade is rounder and richer than freshly distilled material. Fermentation of the leaves before distillation also deepens the aromatic profile.
Origin and production
The oil is sourced from Indonesia, typically from Sumatra, which produces around 80% of the world's patchouli. It is produced by steam distillation from dried and frequently fermented leaves. This method carries the volatile aromatic compounds with water vapour, keeping thermal load limited and preserving the characteristic balsamic aroma.

Storage and shelf life
Store the essential oil in a cool, dark place, preferably below 25 °C, in a tightly closed bottle. Patchouli is one of the few essential oils that improves with age; with proper storage, a shelf life of 5+ years is realistic. Unopened bottles retain quality longer; once opened, it is advisable to use the content within 12 months to preserve the top note.
