The package includes 10 identical 10 ml glass bottles, each filled with steam-distilled Illicium verum essential oil. The bottles arrive without labels, so you can apply your own branding, dosage instructions or design. Net content is 10 ml per bottle and the total weight is approximately 0.41 kg.
Botany: true vs Japanese star anise
Distinguishing true star anise (Illicium verum) from toxic Japanese star anise (Illicium anisatum) is critical: only Illicium verum fruit is safe for aromatherapy and cosmetic use. True star anise oil contains 80-90% trans-anethole, which gives the sweet, anise aroma; the Japanese species contains toxic shikimin. This product is verified Illicium verum.
Origin and production
The oil is sourced from China, from the traditional growing regions of star anise (Guangxi, Yunnan). It is produced by steam distillation from the ripe, dried star-shaped fruit clusters. The method carries the volatile anethole with water vapour, keeping thermal load limited and preserving the sweet-spicy scent profile.
Applications
- Private-label cosmetics: scenting anise-note creams and body lotions
- Aromatherapy: digestive-supporting, relaxing diffuser blends
- Soap making: well-retained sweet-spicy note in cold-process soap
- Perfumery: top to heart note in oriental and spicy compositions
- Candle making: winter scenting for soy wax candles
Storage and shelf life
Store the essential oil in a cool, dark place, preferably below 25 °C, in a tightly closed bottle. Protected from light and heat, star anise oil typically keeps for 2-3 years. Unopened bottles retain quality longer; once opened, it is advisable to use the content within 12 months. In cool storage anethole may crystallise; placing the bottle in lukewarm water dissolves the crystals.
