Teas
Tea is one of the oldest and most widespread natural beverages in the world, known and consumed in China for more than 4,000 years. Green, black, white, and oolong teas derived from the tea plant (Camellia sinensis), as well as the many herbal and floral teas, are each valuable for their unique flavour profile and health effects. Consuming quality teas not only provides a flavour experience but also contributes to physical and mental health: their relaxing, detoxifying, and antioxidant effects are well documented.
Tea Varieties and Their Characteristics
Green tea is minimally oxidised, thus retaining its natural green colour and rich EGCG antioxidant content. Black tea is fully oxidised — a classic for morning teas due to its intense flavour and higher caffeine content. White tea is the least processed: made by drying young buds and leaves, its flavour is delicate and sweet. Oolong tea is partially oxidised, with a unique, complex aroma. Rooibos (red tea) originates from South Africa, is caffeine-free, and has a particularly high antioxidant content.
Herbal Teas
Chamomile, lavender, peppermint, lemon balm, rosehip, sea buckthorn, echinacea, and many other herb-based teas are caffeine-free alternatives consumed for their therapeutic effects. Chamomile calms, rosehip is rich in vitamin C, and echinacea is an immune booster. High-quality herbal teas are made from whole leaves or flowers, not fragments, which provides richer flavour and active ingredient content.
Purchasing and Brewing Tips
When purchasing tea, pay attention to the quality of whole leaves, origin, and harvest year. Fresh tea has a livelier flavour and better active ingredient content. Brewing tip: brew green tea with water at 70-80°C, black tea while hot, and white tea at 75-80°C. Our range includes a wide selection of verified quality, organic, and traditional teas.
Natural Foods and Sustainability
Purchasing natural, minimally processed foods has a positive impact not only on our own health but also on the environment. Products with a lower degree of processing generally require less energy to produce, have more compact packaging, and are closer to the original state of the raw material. By purchasing organic products, we exclude the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, which is better for soil health, biodiversity, and water quality alike. In our range, we prefer products with organic and Fair Trade certification wherever possible.
Storage and Preserving Freshness
Preserving the freshness of natural foods requires special attention, as they lack artificial preservatives. General storage rules: store all dry goods in airtight containers, in a cool, dark, dry place. Fattier ingredients — oily seeds, fatty flours, muesli blends — can also be stored in the refrigerator for longer freshness. Pay attention to the best-before dates indicated on all products, and also consider the recommended consumption time after opening. Freshly purchased, non-expired products always provide the best flavour experience and nutritional content.
