The Koshi and Zaphir Instruments
Koshi chimes are handcrafted in France from bamboo and metal, and are among the most precise and beautifully finished chime instruments available anywhere. Each Koshi element chime has eight tuned metal tubes suspended within the cylindrical bamboo body, producing a complete pentatonic-based scale specific to its element. Aqua – Water – is tuned to a shimmering, light, reflective scale evoking the sparkle of water surfaces. Aria – Air – has a floating, transparent, ethereal quality suggesting the lightness of breath and sky. Terra – Earth – is the deepest and most grounding of the four, with a stable, rooted, meditative resonance. Ignis – Fire – is vivid and dynamic, with a warm, energising quality. Zaphir chimes offer a similar elemental design in a slightly different physical form and material, producing a complementary but distinct tonal character.
